After a pilot experiment last year, international retail giant Tesco, is set to introduce its product portfolio at the hypermarkets of its Indian partner, Trent, reports CNBC-TV18's Tanvi Shukla.

Joint venture (JV) partners, Tesco and Trent , are now preparing to introduce Tesco branded products via their hypermarket outlet Star Bazaar. There will be about 500 products or stock keeping units that will be introduced at the Star Bazaar outlets by end of September.

The company plans to ramp up the Tesco products presence to about 1,000 by year-end. This will be across different categories-biscuits, snacks, and personal products. The company has already started selling Tesco chocolates at selective Star Bazaar outlets.

They are setting up the entire supply chain. All the products will be imported from different geographies.

The test pilot was carried out late last year for specific food and personal care categories. The company says the response was good. The pilot project showed that consumers relate to brand.

The products will not clash with Star Bazaar's in-house private label as the private label will be cheaper.
