Digital drive: TCS opens mobility center in Silicon Valley

India's largest IT services player, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), is betting big on digital technology to drive the next wave of growth. It has launched its global head quarters for its mobility solutions unit in the Silicon Valley, reports CNBC-TV18's Kritika Saxena.

Why is this important to TCS?

The enterprise mobility market is expected to grow from around USD 4 billion to USD 17 billion by 2015, that is the window of opportunity that TCS is look to tap.

The company started its mobility operations way back in 2010, but from then they have grown and added around 60 customers across their services including BFSI, aviation, manufacturing being the key verticals that they service. They have around 2,000 employees currently and growing.

Satya Ramaswamy, global head - mobility, TCS, "The growth is expected to be substantial that is for sure. We are definitely going to expand in multiple geographies because we have seen this as being a very global phenomenon. Today we have customers in US, Europe, Australia, Japan and we would look at expanding to other geographies, Latin America for example. So, we expect that will contribute to enhance both the staff as well as the value that we deliver to the company."

The company is looking at expanding through this customer collaboration center established in the Silicon Valley. It already has a network of partners and is expecting to grow that. It has been investing strongly in the research and development initiatives.

In FY11, it had a corpus of around Rs 100 crore, that has grown by around 20-25% for FY12. Going forward, the company is looking at growing through its nonlinear drives largely.
