The CBI registered a preliminary enquiry for alleged manipulation in awarding BSNL 's WiMax franchise to companies close to A Raja. CNBC-TV18's Malvika Jain reports on against whom the enquiry has been filed and the allegations CBI is looking into.
A preliminary enquiry has been registered against unknown BSNL officials and StarNet Communications. StarNet Communications was issued six-letter of intents for six circles for grant of WiMax franchise despite the fact that it did not fulfil eligibility conditions.
The allegation was that it fudged its balance sheet and showed a turnover of more than Rs 100 crore. This was one of the requirements to apply for a Wi-Max franchise.
It is alleged and believed that StarNet Communications is owned by close friends of the former telecom minister A Raja. Raja's emotional pleas don't seem to work on the investigating agency. A preliminary enquiry in this matter has been registered and CBI will now begin its formal investigations.
