Mah-Satyam sets up shadow board to resurrect firm

Mahindra Satyam is taking an unorthodox route as it tries to resurrect itself. It is setting up a shadow board that will work parallel to the existing board of directors and it's more than just a morale building exercise, reports CNBC-TV18's Appaji Reddem and Sandeep Srikant

Change is the mantra at Mahindra Satyam, as it rebuilds itself from the rubble created by former chairman Ramalinga Raju. The company has adopted the concept of a Shadow Board - a parallel board carved out of lower and mid-level employees. This nine-member Shadow Board will be instrumental in resurrecting the firm and making it one of the top five IT companies in the world.

Arathi Ponangi, a shadow board member said "It feels great to be a part of shadow board. I always wanted to be a part of change. The shadow board is giving me a unique opportunity to not only be a part of change but also contribute towards change. So it's great."

Mahindra Satyam employees believe that the Shadow Board will link the senior officials with the bottom level employees - a move that will not only bring in better transparency, and motivate the employees, but also change the way they do daily business.

Padma Parthasarathi, Head - Special Initiatives, Mahindra Satyam said, "We've gone through a steep fall in the last few months probably like nobody else did. And then we are showing signs of revival as well. So it involves a whole set of changes right from the way we work on day to day basis or the way we are working with the customers to the way we work with team mates, to the services we are working on the markets we are addressing. There is a whole lot of change in the organization."

With Shadow Board, Mahindra Satyam employees feel empowered and gear up to better future. However, it has to be seen to what extent reality meets expectations.
