Sources say that the government has given nod to budget for first year of UID project. It has been already allocated Rs 1,900 crore in FY10 by the Union Budget. The only change made to this project that it will now use National Population Register (NPR) data. Initially it had planned to use Specially Appointed Registrar like banks, insurance and LPG marketing companies. This has been put on hold since this meant pay some compensation to the Special Registrar. In addition to that, the government will also monitor NPR-UIDAI coordination in FY10.
