Tata Communications has a new man at the helm and of course, a whole new growth strategy. Kritika Saxena caught up with Vinod Kumar, the new CEO, for a peek at this strategy. For Vinod Kumar, the transition from chief operating officer to CEO of Tata Communications would not be difficult as he has been spearheading many of its key initiatives over the last 10 years. His new targets are clear; leverage the existing platforms and maximise returns on the investments made in the last few years. He also has the impending roll-pout of 3G services. When interviewed Kumar said “We have a significant domestic infrastructure that the service providers who are rolling out 3G are going to be looking to avail. The second is that 3G will drive the growth of mobile broadband. Tata communication is the sixth largest Internet backbone provider of the world. Will he be looking at taking on additional debt for TCL’s expansion plans? Kumar believes going into next the company would place a big emphasis on profitability and getting returns on their assets. “There will be a need to taken on more debt but it will be through the normal courses that we have taken so far.”
Its existing businesses will also do their bit to chip in, he says.
