There is no concrete decision or a clear signal that has come out on whether the technicians would be reinstated or not. The staff representatives and MNS leaders met Jet Airway's management today and a concrete decision for an intermediate path to help these retrenched employees will be taken by Jet Airways over the next three days.
What we also hear that on the other hand is that Jet Airways is likely to retrench another 150 employees in a week or so and they are likely to recruit freshers to fill in for these trainee technicians.
The trainee's on their part say that their one-year probation period where they were earning Rs 5,000 a month was extended by another year in December 2008. So they have nearly worked on a probation for a year and a half. And, after they got their retrenchment letters, they are on protests since Saturday-July 11. They are saying that because there is a shortage of staff on the airport, the regular aircraft maintenance checks are likely to be affected. Especially C-Check-a yearly thorough check up of the aircraft for one Boeing 777-300ER of Jet Airways has been deferred by a month and the aircraft is likely to be grounded for almost a month.
