The government is looking to fly the aviation sector out of trouble. Sources indicate that the finance minister will hold a meeting with top ministers, bankers and airline companies very shortly, reports CNBC-TV18's Aakansha Sethi.

The finance minister will hold a key meeting on the aviation sector today. It will be attended by aviation minister, Ajit Singh and as well as other key ministers such as petroleum minister Jaipal Reddy. Also, attending will be SBI chairman Pratip Chaudhuri as well as Vijay Mallya.

The meeting will discuss restructuring of Air India. The finance ministry had proposed a package. That involved about Rs 28,000 crore equity infusion over ten years as well as about Rs 21,000 crore of debt restructuring for Air India. Even though the RBI had given a go ahead, lenders have expressed reservations. The way forward with the Air India restructuring is going to be discussed in today's meeting.

Also, sop for Kingfisher Airlines is going to be discussed. FDI in aviation is the other item on the agenda.
