DoT issues letters to all telcos for CAG audit: Sources
The Department of Telecom (DoT) has issued letters to all telecom companies for an audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), sources told CNBC-TV18.
The Department of Telecom (DoT) has issued letters to all telecom companies for an audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), reports CNBC-TV18's Aakansha Sethi quoting sources.
The CAG audit is for Bharti Airtel , Reliance Communications and Vodafone, among others and is to cover three financial years beginning 2006-07. DoT is seeking financial records and documents of companies within 15 days.
The move holds significance as it comes after the special independent audit of telecom companies.
Sources say the Vodafone report may be submitted in a day or two.
Vinod Rai, Comptroller and Auditor General said, "We are not in the process immediately of looking at the books. But we are in the business of looking on telecom providers and operators etc. We are auditing PPPs also now. If there is a company which is participating with the public body and is using the government assets we will be auditing them also."
