The Bombay High Court has adjourned the Vodafone tax case for further hearing on 16 August, reports CNBC-TV18's Ashwin Mohan.
For starters, Harish Salve concluded his arguments for Vodafone. The taxmen will kick start their arguments on Monday.
The other counsel for Vodafone Abhishek Manu Singhvi pointed out there are three new charges on Vodafone imposed retrospectively. In 2008, the government had passed a retrospective act.
The Bombay HC bench observed that arguments on retrospectivity are pre-matured and would want to hear the taxmen's arguments on the Rs 1200 crore tax case. However it noted that it may bring back the case of retrospective only if it feels necessary at a later stage.
