In its second meeting on the recent 2G cancellation order of the Supreme Court, a group headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee including Telecom Minister, Kapil Sibal met the Prime Minister to discuss the way forward, reports CNBC-TV18’s Malvika Jain.
The outcome was inconclusive because both the Attorney General and the Law Minister could not make it to the meeting. It was attended by the Finance Minister, Telecom Minister, Telecommunications Secretary R Chandrasekhar and Montek Singh Ahluwalia. What transpired at the meeting? Sources say, they looked at the legal impact of the last meeting which they had, DoT had only appraised the group of possible implications of this order, but it was looked at from a techno-legal perspective. It is likely that DoT will internally decide upon the way forward. Options available: It is possible that a limited review petition will be filed. On certain issues like auction of spectrum for CDMA players, a clarification might be sought. These are two options which the government is looking at. If DoT deviates from the sense of the discussion that it had reached today, then this group may meet once again.
