US mkts hit 17-month high; Dow gains 1.7% in 7 sessions

Commodities:

Crude oil gained 1.5% to USD 82.9 a barrel (now down 0.4% to USD 82.6/bbl).

OPEC holds production targets unchanged.

Weekly US oil inventory showed a larger drop in oil product inventories than expected.

Copper climbed 1.6%.

Platinum hit 2-Month High.

Currencies

Dollar index slipped towards a 6-week low of 79.507; bounced from there now at 79.8.

Euro was flat at around USD 1.37, hit a five-week high of USD 1.3817.

Data to watch:

US Consumer price index for Feb

US initial jobless and continuing claims

US leading indicators
