Beed cooperative bank CEO booked for cheating
Beed, Oct 25 (PTI) The current Chief Executive Officer and his immediate predecessor at Beed District Central Cooperative Bank (BDCCB) have been booked for allegedly cheating Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) to the tune of Rs 5.50 crore, police said today. MSEDCL Superintendent Engineer Manohar Lande had lodged a complaint of cheating against the sitting and former CEOs, B S Deshmukh and A N Kulkarni, respectively with the city police. Kulkarni has been arrested, police said. Electric bills are deposited in BDCCB branches in the district by consumers. The collected amount is then deposited in MSEDCL account in Mumbai's Canara Bank branch by BDCCB. According to Lande, in the last two months BDCCB had not deposited electric bills, amounting to Rs 5.50 crore, to MSEDCL's bank account and committed cheating and fraud. "We contacted the CEO several times regarding the deposit but they did not respond," said Lande. Acting on the complaint, we have registered a case against sitting CEO Deshmukh and then CEO Kulkarni, who has been arrested, police said, adding further investigations are on.
