Chennai firm claims to develop tech to produce Hydrogen on

demand Hyderabad, Oct 18 (PTI) A Chennai-based organisation today claimed to have developed On Demand Hydrogen technology which it said has the potential to reduce dependency on diesel and replace it the coming years. Chairman of Hydergy India Pvt Ltd A V K Reddy and his team said they have got their technology patented. "We are generating hydrogen on demand. The invention by us is generating pure hydrogen without carbon monoxide. It has no carbon footprints with water being the only by-product," Reddy, who unveiled this technology at the Institution of Engineers here this evening, told reporters. "This technology consists of reacting scrap aluminium with sodium hydroxide in a controlled process resulting in hydrogen and heat. Hydrogen can be with fuel cells to generate power and heat can be used an additional energy source," he said. "The reaction has been known for a long time, but the trick has been to control it and harness the energy stored with aluminium, which no one has been able to do until now," Reddy further claimed. Reddy said his team took seven years to develop the technology. "We have developed hydrogen of very high quality. We believe the next stage is to use this technology for off-grid power and to begin with for cell towers. It has potential to reduce dependency on diesel," Reddy said, adding that the technology can be used for generating hydrogen at the cell towers itself where diesel is now used as the fuel for backup power. Hydergy's focus initially will be to provide hydrogen for industrial uses and mid-sized backup power applications, Reddy said. PTI VVK DK RAI RYS
