Nurpur stadium possession to be taken back from HPCA: HP CM

Dharamsala/Shimla, Mar 5 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said Nurpur stadium will be taken back from Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association and will be used as multi-purpose stadium for sports and cultural activities. The move came close on the heels of state government's move of ordering a preliminary enquiry into "the Pavilion" hotel constructed by the HPCA at Dharamsala. Nurpur is a city and a municipal council in Kangra district of the state. Singh, who is on a three-day visit to Kangra and other lower hills, said, "the stadium was a property of the government and its use should be open to all." Speaking at a meeting in Nurpur, Singh said that speedy development would be the top agenda of his government and areas like Nurpur, which have remained neglected, would be given added priority and brought on par with other developed areas. Alleging that developmental works had come to a standstill during the BJP government regime, Singh said that "Nurpur is an important town and all pending developmental projects of area including construction of mini secretariat, trauma centre and upgradation of the civil hospital from 50 to 100 beds would be completed on priority basis. "Old bus stand would also be renovated to facilitate the commuters." The Chief Minister also laid the foundation of Rs 21 crore water supply scheme for Dharamsala which would benefit about 50,000 people in seven wards of the town including Jwaharnagar, Chellian, AIR colony, Gadiara and Nagrota. Later, addressing a gathering at Rait village near Shahpur, the Chief Minister said the Congress-led government in the state never discriminated with any area and always believed in "uniform and balanced" development of the state.
