Wipro to focus on 8-10 new regions; Japan, China key
Wipro expects to have 1,000 employees in China in the next two years from the current 300 employees, said its Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, Suresh Senapathy. "We will tap the Chinese domestic market in the next 18 months and will focus on government contracts."
Wipro expects to have 1,000 employees in China in the next two years from the current 300 employees, said its Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, Suresh Senapathy. "We will tap the Chinese domestic market in the next 18 months and will focus on government contracts."
Wipro is developing the Chinese market as an outsourcing base to Japan. Japan, he says, is to become a critical player for Wipro for infrastructure services and business process outsourcing.
Besides China, Wipro plans to focus on 8-10 new regions over the next few years. These include South America, South Africa, Europe, and West Asian markets.
He expects Latin America and Africa to be the most important emerging markets for local IT services for the No.3 software maker in the next two years. "We are developing Egypt as an outsourcing base to West Asia and Europe and will double the number of people there over the next two years."
By 2025, Senapathy expects one-third of global IT spends to be from India and China. He stated that close to 50% of all their workforce outside India, over the next two years, will be local hires.
On the acquisitions front, Senapathy says Wipro is looking at companies in infrastructure, engineering, consumer care, eco-energy, and IT.
