The wind energy project of MSPL Limited, a Baldota Group Company, has been registered by UNFCC as a CDM activity. This green project activity would replace conventional energy equivalent to 3568 MU and would thereby reduce emission reduction of Green House Gases (GHG's) to the tune of 25,32,400 Ton CO2 over a 10 year project crediting period. In the absence of the project activity, the above energy would have been sourced from combustion of fossil fuels like coal, gas or oil resulting in equivalent GHG emissions. MSPL diversified into generating wind power since 2001. It firmly believes that effective and efficient generation of green power coupled with being a corporate with a responsible environmental care considerations is vital for maintaining a competitive edge and has thereby taken an initiative in the conceptualization and installation of the 125 MW wind power project in Karnataka with an investment of Rs. 675 crores. MSPL Wind Energy Project is the largest renewable energy project in the world registered by UNFCCC. This project will deliver green power of approximately 356.83 Million Units (MU) per annum, which would be transmitted from this eco-friendly source to State Grid, viz., KPTCL Grid. The project activity is located in the districts of Chitradurga, Davanegere and Bellary in the state of Karnataka, India. Ernst and Young, a leading advisory and professional services firm has been advising the Baldota Group for this project. E&Y was involved in developing the strategy; right from regulatory requirements to developing PINs, additionality test, baseline emission reduction reports, monitoring plan, preparation of PDD, assessing stake-holders comments, obtaining letter of approval, selection of validator and knowledge of the registration process as per the guidelines of UNFCCC. Says Mr. Narendrakumar A. Baldota, Chairman, Baldota Group "There is an increasing focus on renewable energy across the world. India too represents a lucrative market for clean energy and this project will provide us the first mover advantage. MSPL's success would encourage other players to venture in this sector. Our group has a total installed capacity of 161 MW and will add up 50 MW by March 2007."
