Even as the controversy over the twin spark-plug engine technology rages on, another 2-wheeler maker's set to offer a similar engine in its bike.

Royal Enfield has developed a new twin spark engine. The 350 cc engine will be offered in its Thunderbird, whose launch is expected in two months. The engine's highlight is the integrated gearbox. Honda also has twin spark plug engines abroad.

Bajaj Auto has claimed exclusive rights to twin spark technology.

The latest to join this whole twin spark plug engine technology is none other than the oldest bike maker in India, Royal Enfield and even as we speak the engine has already been developed and is ready and it will find its way into one of its modal called the Thunderbird over the next 8-weeks that's according to an official and when we got in touch with Royal Enfield

CEO R. L Ravichandran has confirmed this move and said that though it is a twin spark technology engine, but as far as the architecture of the engine is concerned, it's totally different from any existing engine of its similar technology in the market.

If one looks at Bajaj Auto's statement today, it has mentioned that it will wait till the launch of any offending product in the market after which it may take any legal action. So be it the TVS Flame or for that matter any other product, which could be an infringement into their DTSi technology, any action to that effect will be taken only after the launch.

In this case also, suppose if Royal Enfield, for some reason, infringes upon their technology, even then any action would be taken only after the launch of the product. It will be in the next 6 to 8 weeks.

But despite its twin spark technology engine, the highlight of this engine will be integrated gearbox with the engine. So far Royal Enfield is the only motorcycle which has a engine and the gearbox two separate units and this will be the first time that Royal Enfield will have engine which has an integrated gear box.

Royal Enfield has doubled the production plan of Machismo 500 to 1,000 units and has developed a 500 cc fuel injected engine for export markets.

But nonetheless, twin spark technology is also a first in its engine line up and that could be an interesting point.
