Welspun India Ltd has been awarded Texprocil Award for the highest exports in Madeups segment, in the Manufacturer Exporter category for the year of 2005-06.
Mr. Shankersinh Waghela, Hon'ble Union Minister for Textiles, Government of India, gave away the award to Welspun India at a function held at Hotel Taj Mahal in Mumbai today. Mr. G. R Goenka, Chairman of Welspun Group received the award on behalf of the company. The company is crowned with two gold trophies, one for highest exports of madeups in the manufacturer exporter category and another for special achievement in madeups category. The company has also bagged a silver trophy for global exports.
Mr. B.K. Goenka, VC & MD of Welspun, said: “The award is a recognition of our leadership position in the made-ups segment.”
Welspun, in the month of July 2006, acquired 85 per cent stake in Christy which would give the company a first-hand access to the key European and US markets, where Christy has an established premium positioning in bath and bedding products. Welspun would gain a substantial market volume globally and this would give an impetus to the company’s turnover. The acquisition would not only open-up avenues for adding more ventures in the product portfolio but also leverage its financial growth further and help it positioning itself as an emerging international brand.
