Cadence Design Systems (I) Pvt Ltd, the Indian arm of Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), and Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) today announced the launch of a VLSI lab (very large scale integration) using Cadence® electronic design automation (EDA) technology. The lab gives VTU’s electronics and electrical engineering students invaluable practical experience in end-to-end design and a comprehensive understanding of the overall design chain.

“This exciting new lab allows our faculty and students to apply design concepts using the latest tools, and move away from a purely theoretical learning approach,” said VTU Vice-Chancellor Dr K Balaveera Reddy. ”Cadence’s industry-leading EDA technology offers unmatched end-to-end solutions that address both analog and digital design challenges. After an intensive evaluation process, Cadence emerged as the only viable company offering a unique training support program for VTU that allowed our faculty to gradually and methodologically scale up their expertise.”

“Cooperating with universities is an integral part of our ongoing efforts to help technology students gain relevant experience for a future in electronic design. With India gaining prominence as a design hub, knowledge of the latest technology is invaluable,” said Himanshu Singh, general manager of India and SAARC, at Cadence. “We applaud VTU for proactively initiating the VLSI lab program. The university is a pioneer in introducing a VLSI lab program for undergraduate students, and this demonstrates its commitment to preparing its students for a competitive future in today’s technical workforce.”

The VLSI lab has been instituted in 25 colleges affiliated with VTU, and there are  plans to propagate the program at the other affiliated colleges. VTU is the only technical university in Karnataka, with over 110 engineering colleges affiliated with it.
