Volkswagen to double its passenger vehicle sales
The Volkswagen Group hopes to double its sales of passenger vehicles for the current calendar year to 20,000. The ambitious outlook stems from the German Group’s stellar performance during January-June 2008, when it witnessed a 69 per cent jump in its sales of all cars over the corresponding period of last year.
He said, "The significant increase in our sales figures in India reflects our growing presence in the Indian automobile market and highlights the mounting interest of the discerning Indian customer in our cars. It also points out to the fact that the various models from Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen are aligned to the demands of the market."
"All brands of the Volkswagen Group are moving ahead on the growth curve in India. The sales delivery figures for January to June 2008 have exceeded our expectations. As such, we are confident of meeting our targets for the year. Going forward, our plans to further expand our model range with new launches like the Audi A4 and the Volkswagen Jetta in the year will also drive this endeavour", he further added.
Audi delivered 470 cars to customers in the first half of 2008, 264 units or 128 per cent more than the first six months of 2007. Skoda sold 9,556 cars, 3,643 units or 62 per cent more than in the corresponding period the previous year. Volkswagen delivered 340 cars in the first six months of this year.
