Virgin Mobile India, a joint venture between Virgin Group and Tata Teleservices, today announced that it has appointed Mr. Madhusudan Mandyam as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). As the CEO, Mr. Madhu will be responsible for providing strategic direction and operational focus to Virgin Mobile India and will help drive partnerships and strategic alliances for the organization. In addition, Mr. Madhu will also lead the team in market building initiatives for the country's first nationwide youth focused mobile service brand.

Announcing the appointment, Sir Richard Branson, Chairman and Founder of the Virgin Group said, "Madhusudan brings with him a wealth of experience by virtue of his association with some leading companies and products with global reach. He has an excellent track record of efficiently managing businesses, people and customer relationships because of his intense focus on strategic thinking and execution. I am confident he will steer the Virgin Mobile India team in the right direction as we spread our wings and carve our rightful position in the Indian telecommunication market."

Mr. Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Teleservices said, "I congratulate Madhusudan for his new role of Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Mobile India.  Madhusudan brings with him over 25 years of experience, of which the last 10 years have been in the telecom industry. Formerly President at Tata Teleservices, Madhu has a long and successful track record of managing and developing telecom businesses.  In his last assignment with the Tatas, he has served in various capacities in Sales, Marketing, Customer Care and has led profit centre responsibilities in different territories of the country. He has been a member of the core team leading the company from a single circle operation to pan India presence with a subscriber base of 25 million.

Having been closely engaged with the Virgin Mobile venture from project to operational phase as a member of the VMI Board, he has a deep understanding and appreciation of the Virgin Mobile brand, culture, beliefs and behaviors. His commercial acumen and pedigree in marketing will ensure that Virgin Mobile establishes a dynamic and compelling presence in the telecom market in India.
