In a severe setback to Samsung, a US court has banned the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in the country. The order was issued to allow the court time to decide on the firm's patent dispute with Apple.

Apple had claimed that Samsung infringed its design patent and copied the look of its popular device, the i-Pad. The trial for the case is scheduled to begin in California on July 30.

Apple first sued Samsung in the US in April 2011 on grounds that the company's smart-phones and tablets were copies of the iPhone and iPad. Samsung retaliated and sued Apple for infringing on its telecommunications technology.
