Uniform price for natural gas soon: Oil secy

The Indian government hopes to introduce a uniform price of natural gas in the country soon, replacing the current system where different suppliers charge different rates, Oil Secretary S. Sundareshan said on Monday.

The oil secretary said uniform gas pricing will take a few months to take shape. The decision on regulated gas price hike are in the final stages. Meanwhile, Union petroleum minister Murli Deora said LNG regasification capacity will reach 20 MMTPA by the year 2011-12. He also said there was no shortage of gas in urea plants; infact increased gas supply has resulted in power generation of 5,000 MW.
