UFO Moviez acquires 51% in DG2L cinema division
UFO Moviez India has acquired worldwide rights to MPEG 4 Digital Cinema System from DG2L Technologies Pte. Ltd., Singapore . What started out as a licensing agreement for India in 2005, is today a significant technology buy-out by yet another Indian company.
This move by UFO Moviez to invest and bring in next-generation technology to pan out its footprint in the markets, will revolutionise the way cinema is viewed both in India and around the world. Already, with over 350 plus digital theatres under its kitty, UFO Moviez has the single largest digital cinema network in the world!
The DG2L Digital Cinema System is an MPEG-4, near-2K, end-to-end solution comprising film capture, encoding, encryption, management, secure digital delivery and playback at the theater. DG2L's Theatre Management System allows for scheduling of content distribution, management of content, show times and show packages. Additional features include ad insertion, multilingual broadcast and 6-channel surround sound. Through the entire process, the content is secured by utilizing DG2L's 192-bit content delivery Encryption system, Digital Watermarking and DRM solutions.
Set up in 1999, MPEG-4 standard comprises of a comprehensive open standard for media delivery, for any media type, across any network, to any playback environment. This high-definition digital cinema video system based on MPEG-4 will compress digital files so that they can be more efficiently sent over Internet Protocol networks, thus redefining the compression standards.
MPEG-4 is the latest released multimedia standard from the Moving Pictures Expert Group, a sub-body of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). MPEG-4 represents a revolutionary step forward from its predecessor standards, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MP3, building upon the success of an industry that's established tens of billions of economic activity.
MPEG-4 technology also enables interactive experiences and enhanced services earlier standards could not deliver. Each of the MPEG standards -- MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MP3 -- were all designed for the compression of linear content. The MPEG-4 standard introduced what is termed the systems introducing object orientation which allows for the secure delivery of interactive multimedia. MPEG-4 combines 2D, 3D graphics, animation and interactivity with audio/video and other powerful tools like content security, targeting, and personalization that have become common in the Internet-age.
