TVS Motor has decided to re-launch its controversial twin-spark technology based TVS Flame 125cc motorcycle.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, HS Goindi, President Marketing of TVS Motor spoke about the latest happenings in his company and sector.

Below is a verbatim transcript of the interview. Also watch the video.

Q: Can you first confirm for us whether or not TVS as indeed decided to re-launch its twin spark technology?

A: Yes, we are launching twin spark for Flame. This is in addition to what we already have - our Flame in the market place also.

Q: So this will be a re-branded or a re-calibrated Flame because the indications were that dispatches will begin today itself? Would dispatches take some time?

A: Dispatches begin from today itself. We will have both the brands in the market place the Flame SR 125cc with the three valve single spark plug and the Flame DS 125cc with twin spark plug.

Q: What will the pricing difference be between the two?

A: That will be about Rs 1,500.

Q: So the twin spark Flame, what will it be priced at?

A: Average of about Rs 49,200 ex-showroom throughout the country with varying little bit here and there depending upon the taxation structure.

Q: We did understand last time that the court had given you a green signal more or less. But is it possible that somewhere down the line, the production of Flame will be halted again with the twin spark technology?

A: I can't talk about that because that is for the honourable court to decide. However, what the court has told us now is and agreed with our argument was that we can manufacture and market it in the market place. That is how we understand the whole thing. The court has to give the ruling later on - whether they can stop or allow or what things are - that is for the court to decide later on. Right now the court has allowed us to manufacture and market twin spark Flame as was our argument earlier.

Q: When is the final word to be heard on this ie how much time is there between now and the final judgment and how long TVS motors has to market the Flame?

A: We are marketing Flame that I for sure. This is what I can talk about. How much time will it take? I really don't want to speculate on that. As far as we are concerned, for us and TVS, we can market twin spark Flame - manufacture and market. This is exactly what we are going to do. We have taken a bit of time to understand the details and this is exactly what we are going to do today onwards.

Q: In terms of initial dispatches, what kind of numbers are you working with for the twin spark Flame?

A: I won't like to comment on the numbers right now because we are just starting the whole operations in the market place and then see how do we have to look at the future in terms of both the brands - the Flame SR 125 and the twin spark Flame DS 125 - how do we play these two over a period of time and which hall states we do and how do we go in the market in a big way. So these are things being discussed, I don't want to talk about that as of now. But it is suffice to say that we are starting it in 4-5 states today.
