TV surfing even in non-CAS notified has just got a whole lot cheaper. Telecom regulator, Trai, also the regulator for the broadcast sector, has set Rs 260 as the maximum a cable operator can charge from a consumer living in a metro. This, off course, excludes tax.
That's not all. The regulator has also directed broadcasters to offer channels on an a la carte basis to the MSO and the cable operator. However, the regulator admits implementation may not be a smooth affair.
While consumers have reason to rejoice, cable operators and MSO's aren't complaining either. But broadcasters are certainly not a happy lot, especially since the regulator is yet to review the Rs 5 cap on pay channels in the CAS regime.
