In a competitive bid to match leading integrated telecom services provider Bharti Airtel 's up to 60% cut in roaming rates, Vodafone too is likely to announce roaming rate cut on Saturday, reports CNBC-TV18, quoting NewsWire18.

Furthering the battle, Reliance Communication too, in order to attract more market share, has declared that the company will be cutting SMS rates soon. However, Bharti Airtel has said it has no plans to cut SMS charges as of now.

Reliance said it would charge customers just one paisa per SMS in a new bill plan. The company also launched another plan where customers can send unlimited text messages by paying one rupee a day.

Currently operators charge between 0.5 and 1 rupee for local and national SMSes.

With mobile number portability set to be introduced in the four metros and category A circles such as Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh by the end of this year, and the rest of the country by March 20, 2010, the tariff war is expected to intensify further.
