Q: Let me ask you questions which probably you are in the best position to answer, which is that Tata Group's commitment and vision in the IT business, because a lot of people in the market because the Tata Group has stretched itself in many areas and commodity cycles have probably gone the other way, there is a lurking suspicion or fear that it might probably sell part of the golden goose to tide over this difficult phase for the group. In your any conversation with the Tata Group heads, do you get the sense that part of TCS may be sold to tide over a difficult phase financially for the group? Ramadorai: Definitely no. All of them are absolutely for TCS and its wellbeing. They see the opportunity for growth based on the market size and what this company has produced in terms of leadership, in terms of the capabilities it has built. To me we are never had a dialogue or discussions where it is said that the golden goose or whatever name you want to call it, is going to be divested because it makes sense. The growth of this company, the growth with profitability of this company and the commitment as professionals is very much on the agenda-nothing else is talked about. Q: So it is not a cheque that needs to be encashed now-the Tatas think that this is still a business to invest into? Ramadorai: Absolutely. Q: What happens personally Ram because we have spoken about the business and some people when they retire and I have had this conversation they say, "I am just going to go to my small village Chennai, read books, sleep in the sun."-you don't belong to that school? Ramadorai: I don't belong to that. I will still go to Chennai and to the small village whenever time permits but that does not mean I am going to go and settle there. I am going to be in Mumbai because this is where I have grown up most of my professional career from the time I came back from the Q: So you don't want to hang up your boots-you've done enough and you just want to a different kind of life now? Ramadorai: Not at all. Q: What about doing something outside the Tata Group? It is becoming quite trendy that some people who have put in a lot of effort in their group careers, move out and try and do something else outside the group or outside their career-have you given that a thought? Ramadorai: Yes two or three areas. One is definitely in the independent board I am a part of - whether it is in the pharma company, FMCG company etc. Then I am on the advisory boards of number of external institutions and acedamic institutions like I am on the Sloan Advisory board as well as Marshall School of Business and IIIT-Hyderabad-education skill development is very close to me and I am sure I'll do something in that area. These are some things which will keep me busy. Q: Your family will see less and less of you now for the next few years you think? Chandrasekaran: No, I think they're used to my style of working and I make it a point still to find some quality time with my family and I hope to do that. Q: But this must be a zero sum game-if Ram is finding more time for his family, you'll find less time for your family-right? Chandrasekaran: No, I am not sure that one has to find more time but it is a question of balance and I'll achieve that. Q: So tomorrow does anything significant change at TCS or life just carries on-it is just a designation and a power point which has changed? Chandrasekaran: I think life carries on tomorrow.
