From the Corus buzz in the UK, we now put our ear to the ground in Jamshedpur. The steel city has its sights set on Corus and much more reports CNBC-TV18 reports

" Tata Steel is now a global. The next time I go to Jamshedpur, I shall feel differently than I have felt so far." says Russi Mody, Former Chairman, Tata Steel.

Not just Russi Mody, anyone who visits Jamshedpur now will feel differently about the town and its people. Though the deal with Corus isn't closed yet, the ambition to be counted amongst top global players is palpable. And because Corus matters a great deal, everyone in Tata Steel, even union leaders are tightlipped. Cautious they are, but confident about their leaders...

"Technical knowledge is there. Making of steel is known to everybody... little change here, little change there. But in all these things, the thing that really counts is leadership. And I am quite sure that Tata Steel will provide that leadership." feels Modi

Couple of months more and the management of Tata Steel is hopeful of closing the deal before the year is out. But there's no resting. The company, according to senior officials, is already on the prowl for more.

Eleven months of hard work has brought Tata Steel very close to snapping up Corus. It's not over yet but there's no going back. Even if Corus slips through its fingers, you could bet your bottom dollar that it's not going to be too long before Tata Steel gobbles up another biggie and is counted amongst the top steel producers in world.
