Fiat s' partnership with Tata Motors has given it a new lease of life in India. After struggling with just one model, Fiat is betting big on its two new models the Grand Punto and the Linea to rev up growth. Fiat will partner with Tata to bring in iconic brands like Ferrari, Masserati and Alfa Romeo.

They may or may not partner to bring Jaguar and Land Rover to India, but the Tata-Fiat partnership is getting deeper. After joint dealerships and production facilities, Fiat's commercial vehicle arm Iveco and the Tatas are in the final lap of deciding on Ivecos De Filippis Giovanni , MD, Fiat India said, "Ducato for sure is a leader in the segment and we are looking at it. We feel the segment above 1 tonne will grow significantly."

While fiat's commercial vehicle business will benefit from Tata's strong network, Tata's small-car project may also benefit from Fiat's engineering expertise. We learn Fiat has been consulted on the small car project. Fiat has just one product, the Palio for India currently, but it will add two more cars, the Grand Punto and Fiat Linea by mid next year. Fiats diesel engine plant at Ranjangaon will also be up and running by next year and will supply multijet 1.3-litre diesel engines and 1.2- and 1.4-litre gasoline engines to both domestic and international markets. Fiat hopes to export a large chunk of these engines

"Indian market will be a hub for exports for right hand cars and components and engines. These are same as that of our polish factory in Europe so they are interchangeable. It may go everywhere we are present. We are exporting 6 million euros to Italy, Brazil and South Africa, we want to make it 10 times the value," Giovanni said.

Very soon Tata Fiat dealerships will have iconic brands like Alfa Romeos, Ferraris and Masseratis. You don't believe it, hear it from the horses mouth.

"Two brands, the Masserati and Ferrari are iconic. Our teams are evaluating the time of their entry," Giovanni added.

Speaking of iconic brands, Fiat is ready to extend technical support to Tata motors for the Land Rover and Jaguar, but what that means is still unclear.
