Tanla Solutions, a leading telecommunications software and services provider with operations in India and Europe today announced the appointment of N.V. Subba Rao as CEO & President for Tanla Mobile Inc (USA), Tanla's American subsidiary for mobile applications, m-commerce and interactive services.
Uday Reddy, Chairman & MD, Tanla Solutions welcomed the new appointment by saying: "We are delighted to have a highly successful and respected industry leader joining the senior management team at this exciting stage of exponential growth. Subba Rao has a deep understanding of the business opportunities and challenges faced by the telecommunications sector which will be a valuable asset for further developing our international business operations into new markets."
Commenting on his appointment Subba Rao said: "I am pleased to be joining a company which is futuristic and is leading innovations in the mobile communications sector with demonstrated successes in the Indian, Irish and British mobile markets. My immediate priority will be to further strengthen our position in existing markets and embark on a phase of planned global expansion into new territories and vertical market sectors."
Subba Rao further added that: "The digital convergence of Mobile, Fixed line, Internet and TV is creating a whole new world of exciting opportunities for Tanla Mobile. Our strategy of providing end-to-end mobile application solutions, m-commerce and interactive services will help us in delivering and developing the mobility strategies for global brands. We plan to further build on and expand our partnerships with international mobile operators helping us in delivering the next generation of mobile payments, messaging and multimedia solutions."
Subba Rao joins Tanla Mobile from Bharti Airtel Ltd where he last held the position of Chief Operating Officer, prior to which he had initially joined the company as VP Sales & Marketing. He has over 20 years experience, working with blue chip telecommunications and FMCG brands including Bharti Mobile, Tata Tele, Proctor & Gamble and Agro Tech Foods Ltd. He will now head the business and operations for Tanla Mobile in North America & South America.
Uday Reddy, Chairman and MD at Tanla Solutions further commented on the company's international expansion plans: "Subba Rao's appointment comes at a critical stage of the company's global expansion plans and involves starting operations in the USA which has more than 250 million high spending mobile subscribers with average revenues per user of more than $600 per annum. The US market is very important for Tanla Mobile as all the major software vendors and several global internet brands have their international headquarters there. It is important that the company takes advantage of the opportunity to help develop and implement their mobile strategy."
According to research firm Telephia the market value for the US off-portal mobile content market using Premium SMS for mobile payments was approximately $250 million for the first quarter of 2007 (Estimated to be $1 billion p/a).
Tanla Mobile is also planning to launch operations in Singapore and Dubai this year from where it plans to service the high-growth South East Asian and Middle Eastern markets. The combination of existing profitable operations in India and Europe along with new global expansion opportunities creates an exciting and challenging opportunity for the newly appointed CEO.
