Suzlon Energy shares surged over 8 percent on Thursday morning after the wind turbine maker announced its German subsidiary REpower had received its largest ever order to supply 175 turbines.

REpower has signed a contract with Canada's EDF EN Inc, a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, to deliver the 2mw wind turbines of MM82 and MM92 type for a project in Quebec, Canada.

"With a total rated output of 350mw, the Riviere-du-Moulin wind farm will be the biggest project in the history of REpower," Suzlon said in a notice to stock exchanges.

The project located north of the city of Quebec will be developed in two phases -- construction of the first 150mw starts in 2013 and will be commissioned in Dec 2014, while the second phase of 200mw is scheduled for commissioning in Dec 2015, it said.

The contract is a part of the framework agreement of up to 954mw signed between EDF EN and Repower in 2009, it added.

At 9:45hrs, Suzlon stock was at Rs 22.90, up 8 percent.
