Loss-making wind turbine maker Suzlon today said its overseas subsidiary REpower Systems has bagged a 131.2 mw contract from Meridian Energy of Australia to supply 64 turbines for its wind farm project.

"REpower Systems has signed a contract with Meridian Energy to supply 64 MM92 wind turbines, each with 2.05 mw of rated power, to the Mount Mercer wind farm in Australia," the company said in a statement.

"The project will have a total capital cost of around 260 million Australian dollars and is scheduled to be installed and commissioned between September 2013 and January 2015," the release said.

This order is REpower's first contract with Meridian Energy and the company's largest 'supply and install' contract for its MM series turbines in Australia so far.

"The contract reinforces REpower's longstanding commitment to the Australian wind energy industry and the opportunities presented by the renewable energy target which will deliver around 7 GW of new wind generating capacity in the country by 2020," REpower Australia chief executive officer Chris Judd said.
