Subir Gokarn on Tuesday took over as the deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, the RBI said in a statement.
Gokarn has been appointed to the position for three years from the date of his taking over, the statement said, adding he will manage departments like monetary policy, economic analysis and policy, statistics and deposit insurance.
He will be RBI's fourth deputy governor. The other three are Shyamala Gopinath, Usha Thorat and KC Chakrabarty.
Prior to joining RBI, Gokarn was Chief Economist of Standard & Poor's Asia-Pacific, based in New Delhi.
