Singapore Airlines to offer 'Shahi Thali' to passengers

Singapore Airlines, world's premier airline, today announced its new Indian in-flight cuisine - the 'Shahi Thali' for its First Class customers. This unique Indian meal that features a dazzling spread of traditional Indian delicacies has been especially designed by internationally acclaimed chef Sanjeev Kapoor for Singapore Airlines.

The newest member of the International Culinary Panel (ICP), Sanjeev Kapoor's Shahi Thali showcases the best dishes in both Northern and Southern Indian cuisine

A veritable feast in the sky, it comprises a starter, two types of chutneys (Indian relish), up to four entrees, rice, Indian rotis (bread) and a signature dessert. Lassi (a yoghurt drink) and masala tea complete the authentic dining experience. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian versions of Shahi Thali are available.

The latest in a series of region-specific meals created by Singapore Airlines, Shahi Thali follows the introduction of Hanagoyomi, a specialty Japanese meal set and Shi Quan Shi Mei, a spread of 10 Chinese delicacies. It is part of the Airline's ongoing effort to offer customers the best onboard culinary experience by offering local cuisine that is specific to a route.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. B.K. Ong, General Manager India, Singapore Airlines said, "Shahi Thali is an authentic Indian cuisine. It was designed after food tasting sessions with focused groups in both Singapore and India. The feedback from them enabled us to create a cuisine that lives up to the preferences of our Indian customers"

"This new Indian meal by Sanjeev Kapoor exudes a premium dining concept. It offers our customers the choice and variety that one has come to expect in a traditional Indian meal. Shahi Thali enables us to offer a spread of the distinct dishes from various parts of the Indian subcontinent," said Singapore Airlines Vice-President, In-flight Services, Ms. Betty Wong.

Beside the Shahi Thali, which will be served in First Class, Indian meal options are available to both Business & Economy class passengers. The Indian meal option consists of North Indian as well as South Indian meals on Singapore Airlines services ex India.

In addition, special Indian meal option is available in all classes for passengers on request, including Asian vegetarian (which Indian style vegetarian meal), Jain meal (strict vegetarian meal without onion, garlic and mushrooms) and Hindu meal (non-vegetarian Indian meal).
