Symantec today announced the appointment of Shantanu Ghosh as the Vice President for India Product Operations. Shantanu is an industry veteran who brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the field of IT engineering and Enterprise Software.

 

"Shantanu is a proven leader who has the ability to manage a strong development team and a complex organization," said Mark Bregman, Chief Technology Officer, Symantec Corporation. "I am confident that his appointment as the Vice President, India Product Operations will have a positive impact in continuing to drive innovation and the development of high-quality products."

 

In his previous role, Shantanu headed the Security and Data Management Group in India for Symantec. Shantanu joined Symantec two years ago through the BindView acquisition where he was Vice President of Engineering and responsible for setting up, building and running its largest R&D center in Pune, India.

 

Shantanu will be succeeding Anil Chakravarthy, who will be moving to the US to lead Symantec's Managed Security Services, Consulting and Education Services businesses.

 

"Anil has been instrumental in establishing India Product Operations as a vital part for Symantec's engineering and R&D community worldwide. During his tenure we expanded our India Operations and opened a second location in Chennai," said Bregman. "Anil's transition to manage the Global Services portfolio is an indication of the trust and confidence Symantec management has in his ability."

 

During Anil's tenure as vice president the India Product Operations has not only grown in size but also in capabilities. With a mandate to foster and sustain innovation, Anil oversaw the establishment of Symantec's Center of Innovation at Chennai and the Security Response Lab in Pune. The Centers of Innovation at Pune and Chennai have been involved in core product development and played enabling roles in Symantec's global initiatives like Security 2.0, Storage United and Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.  During this period Symantec's employee strength in India grew from 1700 to nearly 2500 people. 

 

"India is one of Symantec's largest R&D and technical operations sites and I am delighted to take on this responsibility," said Shantanu Ghosh, the new vice president of India Product Operations. "Together, we will aim to create an innovative environment that will continue to ensure long-term success and customer loyalty through next-generation technologies."
