India's largest provider of kitchen appliances, TTK Prestige, has forayed into production of safer and energy efficient induction stoves. The company, which manufactures pressure cookers, non-stick cookware, gas stoves, mixer grinders will be producing these stoves, which have no flame. It is also looking at introducing a new range of pressure cookers and cookware, and products which will be usable on conventional gas stoves. TTK has a licensing agreement with UK-based Meyer Prestige.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, S Ravichandran, MD, TTK Prestige spoke about his company's business plans and the road ahead.

Here is a verbatim transcript of the interview. Also watch the accompanying video.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about induction stove that you have started to produce. What is the price point and what kind of markets are you targeting?

A: The induction stove is a relatively new concept in India but it is not new in the world. We are just catching up. The product is a very energy efficient product, as there is no flame. It works because the induction waves directly heat up the food rather than in a conventional stove where you are heating up the vessel and then heat up the food.

Today, the way the lifestyles are changing and the way the GDP and the economy is growing, I am sure a lot of people are looking at newer methods of lifestyles. Induction cook-tops exactly fits into the younger as well as the older segment of the family. So we are focusing on growing this market, which is at a very nascent stage today to a very large volume.
