Minister for Corporate Affairs PC Gupta said the Satyam board has finally zeroed in on two people for the CEO and CFO post. Refusing to name the candidates, the minister said the two candidates had sought legal immunity. "There are cases pending in different courts [against Satyam] and they want some protection so that in case of liabilities, they are not held responsible."
Gupta also said both the candidates were not from Satyam but "from the industry". He added, "The person who has been identified for the post of CEO...has a vast experience of running large MNC and national companies in India."
Gupta also said the government need to relook at the issue of independent directors. He added that the new company bill will have civil liability as well.
Speaking on the issue of naming the Satyam CEO, Tarun Das, Board Member of Satyam, ruled out the possibility that Ashok Ganguly--Former Chairman of Hindustan Lever, Director of Wipro and the Chairman of the Governance Committee of Wipro--will join as Satyam CEO. He said, "We are nobody to rule him out. He is up there for us. He would rule himself out." However, he did not rule out looking at Tata companies' talent for the position.
Das added that Satyam CEO, CFO names is expected to be announced in the next 48-72 hours.

A: The information which we are getting from different agencies of the time being has shown that there has been an issue of siphoning off funds from the company.
