World Cyber Games 2007 (WCG 2007) - India Finals, sponsored by Samsung India , came to an exciting finish today with the India winners being selected from a keenly contested gaming event held at World Trade Centre in Mumbai today. The Finals had Preliminary round winners from top metro cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai - contesting at the Mumbai Finals for a chance to represent India at the WCG World Finals being held at Seattle, Washington USA, between October 3rd - 7th, 2007.

 

The WCG 2007 India Winners have been selected from the following team as well as individual games - Counter Strike 1.6 (5 member team game), Warcraft III, FIFA Soccer 2007, Need for Speed, Age of Empires III and Project Gotham Racing. The 10 Winners - 5 individual team players and 5 members from the 'Counterstrike' team will represent India at the WCG World Finals to be held at Seattle. World Cyber Games (WCG) - a unique computer gaming event of international repute is designed to build a healthy cyber culture. The best gamers around the world gather in various cities to share the excitement and fun of the game tournaments. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, South Korea - is the main sponsor for the WCG in over 70 countries this year.

"Gaming is emerging as a very strong entertainment platform across the world, especially amongst the youth and the World Cyber Games, with its Slogan of 'Beyond the Game' seeks to promote a healthy cyber culture. In keeping with the spirit of the Game, we have invited the Pakistani 'Counterstrike' team to come and play a Friendly match with our Indian Winners" states Mr R Zutshi, Dy. Managing Director, Samsung India.

 

This Year's WCG'07 tournament is even more special and exciting because of the friendly 'Counterstrike' match between the India Finalists and the Pakistani 'Counterstrike' team, who have flown down to Mumbai from Lahore for this Match. The 6 member Pakistani team, who also represented Pakistan at the ESWC Sports 2007 held in Paris earlier this Year, is being led by Syed Zain Abbas Naqvi (Age: 29 yrs) - Captain of the Counterstrike team, called 'Havok'. Farhan Gulrez Rashid is the Team Manager and 'Havok' has the following team members along with Syed Zain: Yousef Masud (Age: 15 yrs); Haseeb Ahmed (Age: 20 yrs); Muhammed Arslan Sheikh (Age: 19 yrs) and Arslan Nazir (Age: 31 yrs).

 

States Mr Zutshi, "This friendly match between India and Pakistan for 'Counterstrike', we expect, will further fuel the interest in gaming in both the countries." States Syed Zain, Captain of the Pakistan 'Counterstrike' team, "We are very excited to be playing in India with the best 'Counterstrike' team. I think this match is not about winning or losing, but about truly enjoying the Game and playing it in a healthy spirit." 

 

Each of the 5 City Preliminary WCG events had and the Finals will have Cash Rewards for the Top 4 positions along with USB Drives and 1 GB RAM memory card from Kingston and Adidas T Shirts to city runners up from Microsoft. Samsung is providing T Shirts and Jackets to the City and National Winners as well as an all expense paid trip to World Finals of WCG 2007 at Seattle for the National winning team.

 

Samsung is giving Special prices on its LCD Monitors, during the World Cyber Games being held between August 18th to September 10th, 2007 at the WCG venues. Samsung's 'Myst', 'Mendel' and 'Mobius' series of LCD Monitors serve as the optimal display solution for gaming on account of their world best image quality, very low response time and superior contrast ratios.
