The first ever South Asian Association for Regional Co‑operation (SAARC) Car Rally being co-organised by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in close co‑operation with the member-states of the SAARC was flagged off from Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh today. Tata Motors is the Vehicle Sponsor for the Rally whose motto is 'Connecting People, Strengthening Ties'.
The company has provided 24 Tata Safaris and two Tata 207 Double Cab Pickups. Nine Tata Motors dealers too are participating in the Rally.
Mr Rajiv Dube, President, Passenger Car Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, " We are very happy to be associated with the first ever SAARC Car Rally. It builds on the role that Tata Motors played over two years ago in supporting the first ever India-ASEAN Car Rally that helped bridge the distance between member countries in a fun way through motorsport. We are delighted in joining hands with the Government of India and the CII in this innovative initiative of fostering better understanding in the SAARC region."
The 120 participants in the SAARC Car Rally, will cover over 8,200 km, across varying terrain through Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka over a period of about 30 days, before concluding at the Maldives. The Rally will reach New Delhi on April 2, coinciding with the SAARC Summit, and will be flagged off from New Delhi on April 3 by the SAARC leaders. In India, the Rally will also pass through Assam, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra (including Mumbai).
