The Reliance Industries - Reliance Natural Resources gas tussle is heating up. RIL's special leave petition filed in the Supreme Court on Saturday had listed the Union of India via the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas as a non-contesting respondent-cum-intervener.

However, RNRL's lawyers have clarified to the Oil Ministry that it is only an intervener in the case, and not a respondent, which effectively means that RNRL doesn't want the government to become a direct party in the case.

The counsel referred to the Bombay High Court order which allowed the government to be an intervener in the high profile legal battle.
