Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation LTD (IRCTC) has awarded RKHS the contract for designing 3 Base Kitchens at Mumbai Central, New Delhi and Howrah railway stations. The Kitchen design would be based upon the international 'Cook-Chill' system of food production and delivery, a concept unique to current design of base kitchens. The design and build team of RKHS who will execute this project has an experience of designing over 200 facilities (Kitchen and Dining area) for leading Institutional Clients across the country. This is part of IRCTC's plan to upgrade and modernise the food service facility conforming to right Hygiene standards for the rail traveller.

RKHS has secured 2 new on-board food service contracts at the start of the year 2007 for Mumbai-Gorakhpur Awadh Express and Amritsar-Haridwar Jan Shatabdi Express. RKHS also provides food services on-board Mumbai - Ahmedabad Karnavati Express & Mumbai - Kanyakumari Express. 'Rail Rasoi' with an apt tag line 'Swast Khana Mast Safar' is the brand name under which RKHS provides its services in this sector.

"Entering into the Railway on-board food service segment was part of our growth strategy in the Travel sector. We won our first on-board food service contract in December 2005. Today we are managing on-board food services on 4 trains and are proud to have won the contract for designing the base kitchens. The plans of IRCTC, our experience in the Contract Food Service Industry and our joint venture partner Compass Group's expertise gives us all the ingredients to establish new benchmarks in this sector," says Sunil Nayak, CEO RKHS.

Jude D'Cruz, VP - Strategy and New Business, RKHS observed "Quality, Hygiene and Safety has always been our focus in delivering our services to our clients across the board. Therefore our QHSE team at RKHS has earmarked a program to work with our on-board catering team to focus on delivering quality, hygiene and safety standards on the trains that we cater to. Our diet plan will offer the rail traveller a healthy option in food choices. The contract awarded to RKHS for designing the base kitchens is a major break through and also highlights the confidence IRCTC has in RKHS.
