DND Flyway, a world-class expressway connecting Delhi to Noida, rolled back the toll hike after BJP led protestors blocked the DND toll-way. Twenty-five percent hike in private car toll rates was withdrawn.

Harish Mathur, the CEO of Noida Toll Bridge , in an interview with CNBC-TV18's Udayan Mukherjee and Mitali Mukherjee, spoke on the reasons why the toll hikes were reversed after the protests.

Below is the verbatim transcript of the interview. Also watch the accompanying video.

Q: You seemed quite confident that the hikes will stick. Why did you have to roll them back?

A: Noida is one of the promoters. They had a lot of representation plans, so they requested us to review the toll hike as we increased it to 22%. We will have a board meeting on Monday, regarding this. We thought, while we review it, we should not charge the road user hiked prices. Definitely, there will be some increase and some marginal adjustment shall be made, at Noida's request.

Q: Last time, you defended this price rise, saying you needed it to run your business. Why would you roll it back?

A: We told them, that we need renewals of the highway structure, need to maintain the set and make sure that the automation work is updated to the latest technology. A marginal adjustment will not affect our development work on the bridge. There might be some deferment by a quarter or so. After our board meeting, we will inform about the increase proposed to Noida, on Monday.

Q: The authorities threatened to seal your office premises, stating that it was on illegal ground. Is there any problem on that front?

A: No. That is not right. It has been posted like that. All toll plaza structures have some administrative offices. That is the same provision for NHAI projects. It's not illegal. We have already approached them and things are as per the original plan.

Q: Will you agree to a much lower hike, something like 10% and not 22%, on Monday?

A: It should be between 10% and 22%. We have to look into people's consideration as well.
