The Ramanbhai Foundation 3rd International Symposium on Advances in Diabetes Therapy - Basic Science and Clinical Aspects got underway at the Zydus Research Centre today. Over the next two days, 25 internationally acclaimed scientists, researchers and academicians from Sweden, United States of America, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, France and India will be addressing the various aspects related to diabetes therapy.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr. S. M. Sadikot, Vice President, International Diabetes Federation, said, that there was a dire need to collectively fight this malice on a warfooting.
Chairman and Managing Director of Zydus Cadila, Mr. Pankaj R. Patel said, "Worldwide today, more people die from chronic diseases like diabetes, than from communicable diseases. By 2025, more than 350 million people are likely to suffer from diabetes. In view of the rapidly advancing frontiers of scientific research and the increasing importance of international collaboration, we believe that a forum such as this has immense possibilities."
On the occasion, Dr. Michael Czech, Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Director of the Programme in Molecular Medicine University of Massachusetts, USA, delivered the keynote address.
