Drugmaker Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd pleaded guilty on Monday to felony charges related to drug safety and will pay USD 500 million in civil and criminal fines under the settlement agreement with the US Department of Justice.
The settlement has been in the works for some time. In December 2011, Ranbaxy set aside USD 500 million to resolve the potential criminal and civil liabilities related to the investigation by the government into its manufacturing practices and falsifying data.
The company reached a related settlement agreement with the US Food & Drug Administration in 2011.

On December 12, 2013, Ranbaxy Laboratories closed at Rs 429.65, up Rs 3.50, or 0.82 percent. The 52-week high of the share was Rs 525.00 and the 52-week low was Rs 253.95.
The latest book value of the company is Rs 45.40 per share. At current value, the price-to-book value of the company was 9.46.
