Despite the violence at its Manesar plant, auto major Maruti managed to clock a 9% increase in its sales for July. Going ahead, the auto major might not be able to post a significant growth in sales due to the impact of the lockout at the Manesar plant which has halted all production.
Maruti Suzuki, COO, administration, SY Siddiqui explains to CNBC-TV18 the strategy adopted by the company in bringing the guilty to book and preventing the occurrence of a similar situation. Below is an edited transcript of the interview on CNBC-TV18. Q: What is the status of the situation as far as Maruti’s own internal probe into the Manesar incident is concerned? What have your sources revealed? A: At the moment, we are in touch with the Haryana police, the special investigation team. Our attempt is to assess the situation from eye-witness reports collected from the 96 employees who were injured and share it with the Haryana police. There has been a lot of on ground support from the Haryana state government and we are quite confident that they will be able to complete the investigation very soon.
Q: Which investigation are you referring to? The SIT probe or your own internal probe? There is no timeline but the course of events are moving reasonably fast enough for us to hope for an outcome soon. Q: What is your conclusion? Was it premeditated? What does the on-ground evidence suggest? A: It is very clear that the attack was premeditated. For more, I suggest you to wait for a few more days for the investigation to come to an end and the findings be announced. Q: On what basis have you arrived at this conclusion? A: The entire evidence so far with the police indicates the violence was organised and was bereft of any specific provocation. Secondly, the rioters injured people in which process one person died. The act of setting fire to the premises was to destroy any evidence including footage from CCTV cameras.
