The Planning Commission has given its approval for a new international airport at Greater Noida after finding it commericially viable, reports CNBC-TV18. The final clearance by Group of Ministers (GoM) is expected soon. The GoM will meet on May 18 to discuss on the project.

Earlier, GMR had protested plans for another airport at Greater Noida, saying it would impact traffic and revenue generation. GMR has right of first refusal (RoFR) on new airport in 150 kilometre of the existing airport. The proposed Greater Noida Airport is within 72 kilometre of Indira Gandhi International (IGI), Delhi.

The RoFR ensures that GMR gets preference in bidding for the Greater Noida airport in case its bid is within 10% of the highest bidder.
