Philips-Akshaya Patra celebrate 5 yr partnership

Alexius Collette, CEO Philips India & Sri. Chanchalapathi Dasa Vice Chairman, The Akshaya Patra Foundation (TAPF), flagged two food distribution vehicles which were donated by Philips to the foundation. Following the vehicle flag off from the TAPF premises, Rajajinagar, Bangalore, Alexius Collette drove in food distribution vehicle to Krishnanandanagar Government Higher Primary School, where he along with Sri. Chanchalapathi Dasa served children the Saturday special meal consisting Besibele Bath and Sweet Pongal accompanied by top 20 Philips employees. Alexius and his team were glad to spend time with children and interact with them.

 


This year also marks five years of Philips partnership with Akshaya Patra on this occasion, Sri. Chanchalapathi Dasa said “We have a long and fruitful association with Philips India.  It is partnership with governments and corporates like Philips’ which makes Akshaya Patra successful case for public private partnership ventures. We are thankful to Philips for generous & continual support.”  Krishnanandanagar Government Higher Primary School has been a part of Akshaya Patra School meal programme since its inception in June 2000. Speaking on this occasion, Alexius Collette said “This is a great programme run by very sincere people. Philips supports Akshaya Patra because it is a novel meal programme. The meal enables education and education is the key for self development, self esteem and employability. In short, a humane future.”

 

Akshaya Patra is pioneer in setting up centralized kitchen infrastructure for the purpose of mid meals. Itz centralized kitchens are innovatively engineered, cost effective and ensure a freshly cooked nutritious unlimited school meal to underprivileged children. In this mammoth endeavor, food distribution logistics play a crucial role in reaching meals to the school on time everyday. Akshaya Patra have fleet of custom built vehicles across 14 locations in India. Philips contribution to Akshaya Patra boost logistic its system.

 

The program is a successful case in point for Public Private Partnership.  It’s run with part subsidies from the Central and respective State governments of India, besides financial support from corporates and individuals. The program is audited by KPMG to ensure transparency and accountability to all its donors.
