Pfizer, the $ 55 billion global drug major, is planning a major foray into clinical research and formulations development in India.
With product patents getting worked out, Alan Levin, VP, Pfizer global R&D told CNBC-TV18, that Pfizer will now focus on India in a big way. When asked about the clinical research rampup in Pfizer, Alan Levin, VP, Global R&D said, " I think the clinical research capabilities we see and our experience with them in India have been positive. We recently increased our investements in clincial research and biometrics within Pfizer India to help facilitate the development in the broad portfolio of products we have in our pipeline.
He added, "We start with an advent of a pro-innovation climate within india itslef. The patent law is a good first step in that direction ther eare concerns about laws, compulsory licencing triggers and the pre and post grant opposition that give us a pause. But it is a step in the right direction. With the advent of a government policy that continues to be more pro innovation, more research will be considered in India."
